MEI, headquartered on Long Island, is seeking an Instructional Designer Associate to join our growing team reporting to the Principal of Sandler Training / MEI. This position will be focused on creating, modifying, enhancing and managing a diverse array of instructional design projects that are engaging and effective for our current and future clients.

Instructional Designer Associate

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop engaging, interactive, and effective distance learning programs, applying communications and instructional design best practices to deliver impactful and visually appealing content to MEI’s clients.
  2. Create new videos for MEI’s distance learning curriculum including video capture, editing, and production work.
  3. Create new eLearning courses using authoring software for MEI’s distance learning curriculum.
  4. Manage web-conferencing interactivity to drive participant engagement with advanced features such as breakout rooms, polling, interactive chat, white boarding, etc.
  5. Identify opportunities to leverage development of applicable private content to be utilized in the public distance learning offering.
  6. Identify new content that could be developed and offered in MEI’s distance learning portal.
  7. Manage content, structure, and offerings on our online university and MEI’s content portal.
  8. Manage the communication of Sandler Online’s Interactive Learning Management System assets to clients, as well as inbound client communication to MEI to ensure timely responses and superior customer service.
  9. Design and develop workshops and support materials as needed (instructor guides, workbooks, job aides, PowerPoint presentations, etc.)
  10. Organize training materials for multiple delivery channels to promote learning and usability.
  11. Track and troubleshoot issues with distance learning components to determine source (hardware, software, procedural) and help resolve or redirect issue where appropriate.
  12. Stay current with the latest technological developments and tools in distance learning as well as industry eLearning best practices and trends. Recommend new opportunities.
  13. Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Instructional Technology / Design, Computer Science, Training & Development or related field - or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Three to five years training, instructional design or eLearning development for professional adult learners
  • Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Current principles and practices of distance learning or instructional learning technology and applications in a business environment. Strong instructional design skills are preferred.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following eLearning authoring tools: Adobe Captivate, VideoScribe, Adobe Presenter, Articulate or equivalent tools
  • Advanced Proficiency in one or more web-conferencing tools such as WebEx, Adobe, GoToMeeting, etc.
  • Proficiency in one or more video editing tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Premier, or equivalent tools
  • Knowledgeable about adult learning concepts and instructional strategies for distance learning and eLearning development
  • Experience and ability to incorporate a variety of channels into training including editing graphics, recording/editing audio and creating video files
  • Experience collaborating with SMEs to design and develop e-learning solutions
  • Creative and effective in writing instructional texts and audio scripts
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate a sense of urgency to work within aggressive timeframes
  • Strong project management and planning skills; ability to lead a project with limited guidance
  • Strong interpersonal and team work skills; ability to work within a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrate adaptability; work well in ambiguous situations
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to collaborate with peers, SMEs and specific business partners by clarifying deliverables and reinforcing outcomes.
  • Strong self-starter with the ability to perform at a high level with minimal supervision
